First-time champions will be crowned Saturday at the TD Beach to Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth.

The elite fields for the 28th edition of the race, announced Monday, do not include either of last year’s winners or any defending champion. Among the contenders in the men’s race is the 2025 runner-up, Patrick Kiprop of Kenya. The top three women’s finishers last summer will not run Saturday.

Kiprop ran a personal-best time of 27 minutes, 36 seconds last year to finish second to American Conner Mantz, who broke the course record with a time of 27:26. Earlier this month, Kiprop won the prestigious Peachtree Road Road 10K in Atlanta in 27:37.

Other contenders in the men’s elite field include Raphael Dapash (Kenya) who was third at the Peachtree; Habtom Samuel (Eritrea); and Patrick Dever (Great Britain), who finished fourth last year in 27:44.

American men who could contend include Biya Simbassa, who finished ninth last year; Joe Klecker, who was 10th; and Graydon Morris, who came in seventh.

The women’s field appears wide open. The favorites include Pamela Kosgei of Kenya, a World Cross Country silver medalist; Vicoty Chepngeno of Kenya, who finished 10th at the Los Angeles Marathon earlier this year, and Julia Paternain of Uruguay, who is running her first Beach to Beacon after setting a 10K personal best of 33:04 earlier this year in Mesa, Arizona.

American contenders include Elise Cranny, who competed in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics in the 5,000 meters; Molly Born, who won the USA Half Marathon Championships in Atlanta in March and was fourth at last year’s Beach to Beacon; and Dakotah Popehn, who ran in the 2024 Olympic marathon.
