Pierre Mirel criticized the idea to integrate Ukraine into the European Defense Union without waiting for the country's full-fledged accession to the EU

BRUSSELS, July 28. /TASS/. The European Union will not be ready to wage combat operations for Ukraine even in 15 years, former European Commission Director-General for Enlargement Pierre Mirel told the Euractiv portal.

"Europe will not be ready to defend Ukraine even by 2040," he said.

In this regard, the former EU official criticized the idea, voiced in particular by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, to integrate Ukraine into the European Defense Union without waiting for the country's full-fledged accession to the EU.
