Edmonton police believe a former Edmonton volleyball coach who pleaded guilty in June to accessing, transmitting, and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material may have targeted other children.

Police arrested and charged Steven Cabral, 33, in May of 2025 with transmitting child sexual abuse and exploitation material, possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, EPS said in a Monday news release.

Cabral pleaded guilty to the charges on June 15, 2026, and was released until his sentencing hearing scheduled in October. He’s under several conditions, including having no contact with anyone 16 years of age and younger.

However, EPS has continued to investigate the case and found new information to indicate that he may have victimized more individuals.

“Following the court’s decision to release the accused after charges were initially laid, police continued their investigation and learned about new information that suggests that there may be additional complainants,” Sgt. Maciej Rocki with the EPS’ Northwest Patrol said in the release.

“We know that conversations with children are hard for family and friends to have when these matters arise, but we want to ensure that we are able to provide support and a safe environment for anyone who may have information to come forward and speak with police.”

EPS asks that anyone who may have been victimized by Cabral or who witnessed him breach his conditions contact the EPS at 780-423-4567. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
