PHOENIX — Alcon announced the expansion of toric parameter options for its daily, weekly and monthly contact lenses for astigmatism at Optometry’s Meeting.

“As an optometrist ... I will never forget the frustration of having a patient in the chair and knowing exactly the lens that I would want to fit them in, a lens that would deliver outstanding wearing experience and give them the best chance for success,” Chandra Mickles, OD, MS, FAAO, FSLS, director of professional education and development at Alcon, said at a company-sponsored event. “But then I will walk over to the fit set and the lens that I really wanted, the parameter that the patient needed, to my disappointment did not exist.”

The expanded parameters aim to remove barriers “so that when a patient is in a doctor's chair, they can say yes to giving them excellent vision [and] outstanding comfort that the patients deserve,” Mickles added.

According to a press release from Alcon, the expanded parameters for Precision1, Precision7 and Total30 toric lenses will better support individual needs across a variety of prescriptions, optimizing accessibility and strengthening first-fit and appointment success.

With these expanded parameters, the Precision7 and Total30 lenses can support 99% of astigmatic eyes, and the Precision1 lenses include at least 28% more parameters than other daily lenses, according to a fact sheet provided by the company.

According to Mickles, the expanded options for Total30 lenses are currently available, and those for Precision1 and Precision7 lenses will be available later this year.
