Scrum.org has two AI courses:Professional Scrum Master- AI Essentials (PSM-AI Essentials)Professional Scrum Product Owner - AI Essentials (PSPO-AI Essentials) In the past, you couldn’t get their certificate without participating in their training classes. But on 1st June 2026, this limit was removed. It means now you can take their exams directly to get the certificate without the need to participate in their training classes. The big question arises here. Is it good or bad? Let me dissect it for the PSM-AIE certificate. The same story applies to the PSPO-AI Essentials certificate as well. Option 1: Self-study & direct exam WITHOUT joining the training classYou can directly go to Scrum.org on this link to buy the PSM-AI Essentials exam voucher:https://www.scrum.org/assessments/professional-scrum-master-ai-essentials-certificationIf you read this link, you will see it includes a short, simple text and introduces some sources for your self-study. Check it.ProsYou only pay for the exam attempt ($200 USD)You can study on your own schedule, using free sourcesConsYou just learn the theory under your own supervision. (Not the practical aspect and with no trainer supervision)If you fail, you have to buy the exam voucher again. (High risk)You are not sure if you have learned all the pieces of the puzzle that you should learn. A lot of blind spots can be left.You miss the opportunity to make your hands dirty through practical exercises in class.You miss the interactive aspect of the class, learning with other classmates.You miss getting familiar with AI tools that are used in the training class.No confidence to use your practical learnings the very next day at work.There is a risk of learning outdated or wrong things.You miss the feedback from an expert trainer in your learning process.You miss the structured content and expert guidance provided in the training.Higher risk of failure: Without proper training, you might miss key nuances and practical applications of AI in Scrum, leading to a higher chance of failing the 85% passing score exam. Option 2: Participating in an official PSM-AI Essentials training classWhen you join the PSM-AI Essentials class, in fact, you buy a specific experience. Let’s check its pros and cons.ProsThe class includes two attempts at the PSM-AI Essentials exam.You learn with an experienced, expert Scrum trainer (PST).You learn from other real Scrum Masters, your classmates, specifically from sharing experiences.You do a lot of practical exercises with the supervision of the trainer.It guarantees that you will learn AI concepts within the boundaries of the most accurate version of Scrum (Professional Scrum).You will learn all the pieces of the puzzle that you should learn. You should learn how to leverage AI in the field, serving your Scrum Teams with a new generation of value in the AI landscape.
