This session will cover what you need to know about copyright when publishing and reusing others' work, with particular attention paid to use of materials in your thesis. We'll cover copyright basics, the use of copyright exceptions to reuse materials, how to ask permission, your rights as an author and what you need to pay attention to when agreeing to a copyright transfer or license with your publisher. We'll also touch briefly on the support the Libraries provide to publish open access.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Understand copyright responsibilities when writing your thesis
• Understand considerations for using your own work
•  Understand considerations for using third party materials (images, figures, etc.)
