People Are Recalling The Scariest, Most Terrifying Film They’ve Ever Seen, And I’ve Never Heard Some Of These Before

“‘That’ scene still gives me goosebumps every time I think about it.”

Have you ever watched a film that scared the living crap out of you? You either slept with the lights on for days, or it completely changed how you saw certain parts of the world. Well, when Reddit user mxnocturna asked: "What is the most absolutely scariest, terrifying film you’ve ever seen?" I thought I would share some of the answers below, you know, just in case you're looking for a creepy film to watch.
1. "The Ring. The twisted-ass face of the lady towards the beginning is not something I have ever forgotten, and it legit terrified me" View this video on YouTube DreamWorks Pictures / Via youtube.com

"I made the mistake of watching The Ring by myself in my hotel room. The worst part was that the TV in the room looked almost identical to the one in the movie. I did not sleep well that night."

2. "The Strangers. For good reason, too. The movie showcases true psychopaths who do what they do for the fun of it, and there wasn’t any stupid motive revealed halfway through the events, either. It only happened to the main characters because they answered the door. That’s terrifying." View this video on YouTube Universal Pictures / Via youtube.com
3. "The Blair Witch Project, but specifically watching it in theaters back in 1999 when everyone still thought it might be real footage. The total lack of music, the frantic breathing, and that final shot in the basement... absolutely paralyzing." View this video on YouTube Haxan Films. / Via youtube.com
5. "The Grudge really got me in high school." View this video on YouTube Columbia Pictures / Via youtube.com

"This was always one of the scariest for me, too.

My girlfriend and I saw the US one in the theater and immediately afterward rented the Japanese original and watched it that same night.

The thing that always got me about those was, unlike most ghost movies, where the ghost is anchored to some locale, the Ju-on ghosts attach to YOU and can appear anywhere you go.

I've legitimately had nightmares about that little kid reaching out to grab my hand and awoken with a start to find my hand dangling off the edge of the bed, hovering over complete darkness."

6. "Green Room for the most believable horror situation I could believe happened to me. Like I know there are serial killers in the real world, etc., and psycho ex-boyfriends/stalkers... but I dunno, walking into the wrong back room because I forgot my phone charger and suddenly being in the middle of the 'oh shit, witness to a murder' scene in an unfriendly place... we've all been there. Maybe not a skinhead bar, but you know, one drunk party in your life, you were there in some shady place where something probably illegal was going on in one room, and you're like, 'Oh, they're probably just doing cocaine or something in that room.' I could see my life suddenly shifting into that locked-in-a-room scenario with a gang of people who are psychopaths and need to get rid of witnesses." View this video on YouTube A24 / Via youtube.com
9. "I watched the first Paranormal Activity when it came out in the theaters, and it scared me to death. Granted, I had NO idea what it was about or what to expect, so the creepy scenes were surprising and shocking." View this video on YouTube Blumhouse / Via youtube.com
12. "Original Jeepers Creepers." View this video on YouTube United Artists / Via youtube.com

"No, for real though. I watched it at a friend's house in high school, and then I had to drive home alone, at night, down about fifteen minutes' worth of country backroads. I was so freaked out by the time I got home, I had to tell myself a story in my head about Buffy the Vampire Slayer killing the Creeper just so I could get to sleep, lmao. Fanfic to the rescue!"

13. "Stigmata fucked me up as a kid. Every time I see someone buying any kind of religious relic to bring home, it freaks me out." View this video on YouTube Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer / Via youtube.com
14. "Aniara. It's a Swedish-Danish sci-fi movie about a spaceship carrying humans to a Mars colony, fleeing environmental collapse on Earth. They are forced to make evasive maneuvers to dodge a head-on collision with some space debris, which instead takes out the fuel supply. The ship is still moving at cruising speed, but headed... nowhere, in particular out into deep space. The passengers are informed of the situation but reassured that they will be able to swing back around in the gravity well of the next celestial body they'll find, in a few months. They have everything they need on the ship to subsist that long a time, easily, many times over in fact. The captain privately describes the ship as being kind of like a planet in its own right, in terms of self-sufficiency. The rest... I leave to you to see for yourself. Rest assured, this is not a movie about alien attacks or AI going crazy. Just humans." View this video on YouTube Magnolia Pictures / Via youtube.com
16. "I know it’s cliché to say at this point, but I feel like the heavy balance of true horror and the grief shock in Hereditary makes it such an effective, scary film in two ways. I thought it was amazing, and I’ve only ever been able to watch it once. It’s just so brutal." View this video on YouTube A24 / Via youtube.com
17. "I still have difficulties watching Martyrs (2008), especially with certain financiers and other high-stakes figures making the rounds in the news with a certain set of files. An absolutely evil and depressing movie, but also deeply profound and revealing of our zeitgeist. Easily the most terrifying film I’ve seen, for these and a bunch of other more, let’s say, ’practical’ reasons." View this video on YouTube Canal+ / Via youtube.com
