Les fans d’Eminem ne seront pas déçus avec ce deuxième album de Slaughterhouse. Signé sur son label Shady Records en 2011, le groupe gagne ici en consistance ce qu’il perd en originalité. Royce Da 5’9’’ qui fonda Bad Meets Evil avec Eminem au tout début de leur carrière n’y est pas étranger. Brouillés, les deux rappeurs ont su aplanir les angles et du même coup relancer ce collectif dont le premier album était sorti dans un quasi anonymat en 2009.
Avec l’appui de Shady Records, Welcome to : Our House bénéficie d’une production quasi exclusive d’Eminem épaulé par des featurings de la crème du rap game US. On se croirait même parfois sur un album solo de Marshall Mathers dans lequel il aurait convoqué les rappeurs de Slaughterhouse. Les marques de fabrique sont nombreuses : intro (littéralement) à la tronçonneuse, ambiance de film d’horreur, présence d'Eminem sur trois titres (et certain refrains) ainsi que de Skylar Grey sur deux autres (Eminem l’avait propulsé sur « I Need a Doctor », marquant le retour de Dr. Dre aux affaires en 2011). N’oublions pas non plus les violons (joués au synthé) sur « Our Way », l’humour, les visuels...pour parfaire le tableau des gimmicks du rappeur de Détroit. Que dire de « Asylum », tout droit sorti de l’esprit dérangé et schizophrène de Slim Shady.
Tout ce faste ne veut pas dire que les quatre rappeurs de Slaughterhouse ne tirent pas leur épingle du jeu. « Trow It Away » avec Swizz Beatz est une bombe en puissance, parfait pour le dancefloor, tout comme « Coffin » avec Busta Rhymes qui fait le travail, comme d’habitude. « Hammer Dance », basé sur un sample de Korn, explore la fusion metal-rap de façon plutôt sobre. « My Life » en duo avec Cee-Lo Green renoue avec la mode assez désespérante des samples à base de dance des années 1990. Après Haddaway et son « What Is Love » utilisé dans « No Love » sur l’album Recovery, Eminem utilise la même recette avec Corona et « The Rhythm of the Night » pour un résultat plutôt honnête. Mention spéciale pour l’original « Flip a Bird » à la rythmique chaloupée, une réussite totale. L’album, qui n’est pas exempt de morceaux inutiles voire carrément ennuyeux, est un peu long mais assez réussi.
