A 17-year-old girl has tragically died after experiencing a 'medical episode' at the Kendal Calling music festival in Cumbria. Emergency services were called to the festival at 2:13am on Sunday after receiving reports that the teenager was experiencing an episode.

Despite the tireless efforts of medical personnel, who performed CPR, the girl was sadly declared dead at the scene.

Specialist officers are providing support to the girl's family, who have been notified, police confirmed.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl's death is under way, with detectives appealing for witnesses who were near the 'Calling Out' tent and the 'Big Wheel' at the Kendal Calling venue at approximately 2:00am.

Authorities are particularly eager to trace a group of women who raised the alarm with first responders after becoming worried about the girl's condition, reports the Mirror.

A Kendal Calling spokesperson said they were "deeply saddened" by news of the girl's death, and that they are supporting authorities with their investigation. As soon as the individual became unwell, they were immediately attended to by our on-site security and medical teams.," they wrote.

"Paramedics and medical personnel provided emergency care at the scene and did everything they could to help."

More than 40,000 people were in attendance at the festival site this year, which includes high-profile headliners such as Wolf Alice, Primal Scream, Biffy Clyro, Scissor Sisters and Groove Armada.

The family friendly festival also has a number of other stages and tents featuring DJs, comedy and cinema, as well as an area just for children named Kids Calling.
