Marvel's Wolverine is one of the most exciting PS5 exclusive titles for 2026, and after a lengthy gameplay deep dive from Sony at its 2026 State of Play information, we finally have information on pre-orders and release date.

For the TL;DR, Wolverine is available to pre-order now ahead of its September 15th 2026 release date with a Standard Edition at $69.99/£62.99, while there is also a Digital Deluxe Edition for $79.99/£74.99 that adds a few interesting items and is available as a PlayStation Store exclusive.

Let's take a look at what's included with each edition so you can make an informed decision as to which version is right for you and all the important purchasing information you need.

Unlike a lot of pre-orders these days, the one for Wolverine is remarkably simple, with only two variants available - a Standard Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. There aren't any other variants, such as a physical Deluxe Edition or any other expanded variants with other goodies just yet.

The Standard Edition simply comes with the game itself, although as per the PlayStation blog, if you lock in a purchase before the game's release date, then you get the following pre-order bonuses:

The Digital Deluxe Edition is a $10/£10 supplement on the original title (at least from its £69.99 retail price), and is available exclusively from the PlayStation store. It brings some additional, exclusive items that you won't find anywhere else, too, as you'd expect for a Deluxe Edition.

Interestingly, Sony is also offering the Digital Deluxe Edition perks as a £10/$10 'upgrade' that can be purchased separately. This is handy if you pick up the game for lower than the £69.99/$69.99 price tag and still want the additional perks to make the Digital Deluxe Edition cheaper separately than as a whole package from Sony directly.

It's been a long road to get to the point where Wolverine has gone up for pre-order, especially since it was described to be "very early in development" and teased back in September 2021. Leakers had claimed in February 2023 that the game would be semi-open-world and launch as early as autumn 2024. The game's developer, Insomniac, suffered a hack in December 2023, soon after which fans began posting leaked assets from the unfinished game. From then on, things went a little bit quiet as Insomniac presumably hunkered down to finish Marvel's Wolverine off.

As time has passed, we've learnt more officially about the latest title from Insomniac, best known for its Ratchet and Clank games, such as that it's more linear than Spider-Man, shooting down the idea of it being somewhat open-world from previous leaks. The associated gameplay reveal with its seven minutes or so of uninterrupted footage also noted how gruesome and violent Wolverine is going to be, which was in line with earlier leaks and to remain true to the comic books. Insomniac has added a highly detailed damage system, including regional accurate body damage, so enemies can get large tears and chunks out of their torso, lose parts of their armour and have their suits torn open. It seems like Wolverine isn't a game for the faint-hearted, at least out of the box.

However, if you'd prefer to turn a lot of the gore off, then Insomniac has made provisions in the game's settings so you can dial it down, such as stopping blood splurting everywhere and even disabling the limbs being sliced off. Insomniac is also allowing players to blur fixed camera animations when Wolverine does a clawed uppercut.

Insomniac has gone as far to make Wolverine able to die, although with his adamantium skeleton and regeneration capabilities, it's designed to be quite difficult for enemies to kill him off entirely. Nonetheless, the developers wanted him to be able to be damaged to a "very extreme degree", so it was in-keeping with the fact fans love that he still powers through in spite of an obscene amount of damage, making him such a hero.

Plus, it also revealed that X-Men pal Jean Grey is joining the action. Unfortunately that seems like the only piece of further X-Men action we're going to get in Wolverine, as they technically don't exist in the game. However, Insomnic's creative director Marcus Smith has confirmed that there will be lots of other Marvel characters throughout the game - we've already seen Mystique, Sabretooth and Jean Grey, but a Spider-Man cameo is also expected alongside others. Players will also be able to interact with these additional characters in different ways, such as with Mystique and Sabretooth, with the in-game mechanical buddying working with different dynamics depending on their historical relationship, which ia a neat addition.
