A quality keyboard for a lot less.

8BitDo's Retro87 is one of the loveliest and latest retro-inspired mechanical keyboard you'll find from a brand who love attention to detail - I'm especially a big fan of the green Xbox model. The one that's discounted here though is one inspired by recent mech shooter, Mecha Break (specifically the Panther character), which can be had for just £56 from Amazon, taking a well-appointed mechanical keyboard with some excellent theming to its lowest price ever.

The big thing with this particular 8BitDo keyboard is its looks, which comes with a mean black and blue colourway inspired by Mecha Break. If you're a fan of the game, there looks to be a lot of little details across the keyboard's chassis that you can appreciate. As much as I haven't played the title, I still like what 8BitDo has done with this keyboard, especially given what they've done with other models.

The keycaps here are ABS, rather than PBT (a shame), but they're cleverly translucent, so when the Retro 87 is turned on, its atmospheric blue default lighting shines through impeccably. A TKL layout is also functional while giving you more desk space, and you only miss out on a numberpad against a full-size keyboard - UK folks may want to watch out that this is a US ANSI layout, but if your system language is set to English UK, then it'll work with no trouble - some keys will just be in a different position, but you do get used to it.

Inside, this keyboard comes with Kailh Glaze Jellyfish Pro switches, which are a 45g linear switch with neat clear steams and housings. If you don't like them for whatever reason, then the Retro 87 is also hot-swappable, so you can put whatever other switches inside you want to without the need for any soldering action. In addition, this keyboard is also wireless, and works via either Bluetooth or its bundled 2.4GHz receiver, and you can also use USB-C wired if you so choose, giving you some versatile connectivity.

Battery life is also strong, with 8BitDo rating this keyboard to last up to 300 hours over Bluetooth, or up to 280 hours over the 2.4GHz receiver. You also get the usual 'super-programmable buttons' that 8BitDo provide with these keyboards, and it is also programmable in 8BitDo's Ultimate Software V2 package. If you want RGB lighting, then there are eight preset effects you can utilise.
