The Telangana BJP on Monday questioned Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s performance in the portfolios of education and municipal administration and urban development, alleging that he had failed to deliver meaningful results.

Mr. Revanth Reddy has called engineering students a ‘criminal waste’. Instead, it is his own performance that deserves scrutiny. Has he reviewed the state of technical or higher education even once? He only needs to listen to his own Cabinet colleagues and MLAs to understand the shortcomings in his administration,” said BJP MLA Palvai Harish Babu.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s State office, Mr. Babu advised the Chief Minister against lashing out at teachers and students, saying such remarks reflected frustration over the government’s failures. Education-related matters are directly under the Chief Minister’s purview and claimed that no significant reforms had been introduced in higher, technical or school education.

“What has the government done over the last two-and-a-half years to improve the rankings, infrastructure, or faculty strength of public engineering colleges? There are around 3,000 vacancies in higher and technical education institutions. Many schools and colleges lack basic amenities, including toilets. Some hostels are functioning like dormitories. Instead of constructing more hostels, the government is spending ₹200 crore on each integrated school,” he alleged.

The BJP MLA also questioned the Congress government’s decision to permit 60 new engineering colleges despite the B.V.R. Mohan Reddy Committee recommending a moratorium on new institutions in 2018. “None of the committee’s 15 recommendations has been implemented,” he claimed.

Mr. Babu said the rapid expansion of private engineering colleges began during the Congress government led by former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and argued that inadequate focus and funding had contributed to declining educational standards.

He further alleged that the Chief Minister’s remarks stemmed from the government’s inability to clear pending fee reimbursement dues. “Even public representatives like us are unable to meet the CM to seek approvals for establishing new degree colleges.. The recent rains have exposed the condition of urban areas,” he added.
