With July all wrapped up, the monthly status report is now published for KDE Linux as the in-house Linux distribution featuring all of the latest KDE wares and other open-source innovations.

One of the interesting KDE Linux developments for July was introducing a "Package Compatibility Helper" tool for when a user downloads a new program from Flathub but finds that nothing on the system can currently open said file. This compatibility helper was initially wired up for Java for when a Java program is downloaded and unable to run, it can prompt to download a Java runtime (JRE). This tool has already been extended too for if encountering a DOS application to prompt to launch it via DOSBox.

This package compatibility helper can be extended further going into the future for supporting other run-times and emulation layers.

KDE Linux over the past month also focused more on QA and testing, kernel hardening tweaks, dropping unused kernel modules irrelevant to desktop computing, socket activation for the CUPS print server, and fixing bugs.
