Last month 3mdeb released their open-source firmware for a modern AMD EPYC motherboard from Gigabyte that was built off the new AMD openSIL project and Coreboot. Today 3mdeb has delivered the first open-source firmware release for a modern AMD Ryzen desktop motherboard with having independently brought their openSIL+Coreboot powered Dasharo stack to the readily available MSI PRO B850-P WIFI.

In addition to their Gigabyte AMD EPYC motherboard port, 3mdeb firmware engineers have been concurrently porting their Dasharo open-source software stack to the MSI PRO B850-P WIFI. They announced the initiative back in February and in the months since continued working on the port and adding new features like Windows 11 boot support. Now in closing out July, they are ready with their Dasharo v0.9 release for the MSI PRO B850-P WIFI.

The MSI PRO B850-P WIFI is a typical AMD Ryzen 7000/9000 series desktop ATX motherboard. All the typical features one would expect with nothing particularly special until now with 3mdeb's independent firmware port. I covered the motherboard previously in MSI PRO B850-P WiFi: A Special AMD Ryzen AM5 Motherboard For Linux / Open-Source Enthusiasts. Earlier this year when 3mdeb announced the port I bought the motherboard for about $179 USD while with today's pricing is up to around $300 at popular Internet retailers like Amazon.com (affiliate link).

3mdeb announced the Dasharo v0.9 release via their blog and note it's working currently with Zen 4 Phoenix processors, UEFI Secure Boot works, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and Windows 11 25H2 have both been tested, and other typical functionality should be working. More details on the current features and hardware support via that post. I'll be trying out the Dasharo firmware soon on this MSI motherboard for seeing how well its working and performance in practice.
