Novak Djokovic was in his element on Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday, and even had time to show Nick Kyrgios some love as he coasted to the Australian Open semi-final.

Djokovic, 36, defeated American rival Taylor Fritz with a 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory in Melbourne, and looks seemingly unstoppable as he bids for a record-extending 11th title Down Under.

And the Serb is having a grand old time in Melbourne, with the veteran spotted blowing a kiss towards former Wimbledon rival Kyrgios in the commentary box.

Kyrgios, injured and unable to compete at the tournament, has shared his wisdom with Eurosport during the first slam of the year in Australia. 

But he has been a huge supporter of Djokovic and the pair have developed an unexpected bromance, leading to the funny scenes on Tuesday. 

The defending champion was dominant in the end but it wasn't all plain sailing after he lost his temper with his own coaching team having missed eight break points at the end of the first set. 

Fritz then hit back to claim the second set before the Serbian's power and quality told as he took control of the third and fourth sets. 

The Serbian top seed will meet either Andrey Rublev or Jannik Sinner for a place in the final. 

After his win, Djokovic was interviewed by Kyrgios and said he would rather see the Aussie on the court instead of in the commentary box.

'Great to see you,' he said. 'Looking good in that booth. But looking better here. 

'Hopefully with a racquet also soon. We miss Nick. Come on guys. Show him some love.' 

Earlier in the match, Djokovic missed multiple break points in a draining first game that lasted 24 points, and then failed to take three more break point opportunities in Fritz's second service game.

The Serbian superstar became more agitated as the set wore on after missing eight break points in total, and took his frustration out on his team at one change of ends.

The 36-year-old was sat drinking water as he tried to grab the attention of those in his personal box by frantically waving his arm. Having not been noticed after several seconds of waving, Djokovic threw his arm up in dismay and then shouted across, which finally did the trick.

He was still far from happy, though, motioning for his team to always be looking at him to help him overcome Fritz in a gruelling first set.
