Allan Nascimento, a mixed martial artist in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s flyweight division, has died at the age of 34 of an apparent heart attack.

The UFC announced Nascimento’s death via a post on social media.

“This morning, Monday, August 3rd, our beloved fighter and exemplary flyweight, Allan Nascimento, was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent heart attack in his sleep,” the UFC said.

“Despite the efforts of the responding medical team, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Allan’s family, friends, teammates, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Fighter had 22-7 MMA record

Nascimento’s last fight in the UFC was in June during the UFC Fight Night: Kape vs. Horiguchi event, losing to Mitch Raposo via split decision.

The Brazilian fighter first gained the attention of the UFC in 2018 after competing on “Dana White’s Contender Series,” a show where UFC president White scouted potential talent. Nascimento lost to Raulian Paiva in a split decision, per the New York Post.

He eventually made his UFC debut on Oct. 30, 2021, at UFC 267 in a losing affair against Tagir Ulanbeko.

Nicknamed “Puro Osso” (Portuguese for skin and bones), the 5-foot-8, 125-pound fighter had an overall MMA record of 22 wins and seven losses, and a 4-2 record in the UFC, per MMA Junkie.

‘I lost a brother’

Nascimento trained at Chute Boxe in Sao Paulo, Brazil, alongside many MMA fighters, including Charles Oliveira.

Oliveira paid tribute to Nascimento in a series of Instagram Stories.

“Today I lost a brother that the fight game gave me,” Oliveira wrote. “Thank you for always being by my side, for sharing the mats and the corner. I have nothing but gratitude for having you with me — in training, in the corner, and just hanging out. I love you, man; you’re a legend.

“My brother, I can’t even believe it; you will be deeply missed.”

Brazilian fighter Renato Moicano also expressed his condolences online. 

“Rest in peace Alan Nascimento,” wrote Moicano on X.

Fighters Dustin Poirier and Mackenzie Dern reacted to UFC’s announcement of Nascimento’s passing on Instagram with prayer emojis.

“He was one of the most kind fighters that’s I’ve ever met! Polite, good energy and always in good spirits! He will be missed,” fighter Caio Borralho said on Instagram.

“You are an example of an athlete and a person, brother! We’ll miss you; your legacy is huge. I’m a fan for life, brother!” commented UFC fighter Marco Tulio.

Nascimento is survived by his wife and two children.
