In Crash Analytics, you can merge similar crashes from the same source file into a single crash. Merging reduces noise in your reports and makes it easier to analyse related crashes together.

Only crashes from the same source file can be merged even if they have different error messages. Inline crashes cannot be merged.

Merging or unmerging affects future and historical Crash Analytics reports for the previous 13 months. Historical reports are updated the next time Matomo processes reports. Changes are not reflected immediately.

1. From the Matomo dashboard, select Crashes in the reporting menu to open Crash Analytics.
2. Select a crash table report, such as New crashes or All crashes.
3. Hover over the crash row to display the available actions.

4. Click the Merge Crashes icon.
   

5. Select one or more crashes from the same source file.
   

6. Click Merge to start the merging process.
7. Matomo will prompt you to confirm before proceeding. If you are sure, click Yes.

After merging, Crash Analytics treats the selected crashes as the same crash in reports, even if their error messages differ.

1. In Crash Analytics, go to Manage Crashes > Unmerge Crashes.
   
2. For the merged crash, click the Action icon to unmerge.
3. Matomo will prompt you to confirm before proceeding. If you are sure, click Yes.

After unmerging the crashes, they will once again appear as separate crashes in your reports.

You can also merge and unmerge crashes programmatically using the Reporting API. Only crashes from the same source file can be merged.

• To merge crashes, call CrashAnalytics.searchCrashMessagesForMerge to retrieve the available crashes and their idlogcrash values. Pass the idLogCrashes values to CrashAnalytics.mergeCrashes.
• To unmerge a crash group, call CrashAnalytics.unmergeCrashGroup and provide the idLogCrash value for the merged crash group.

Once your crash groups are organised, use the Crash Analytics reports to investigate recurring issues, monitor new crashes, and confirm when fixes have resolved them.
