Alexander Stafford, former councillor for Ealing Broadway in 2014 and 2021, described the scenes in the aftermath of the crash as "absolutely horrific".

He said in a post on X: "Absolutely horrific news from Ealing Broadway - as a councillor I used to represent this area and used to work in that very M&S. Praying for a speedy recovery for all the injured."

A total of five pedestrians were injured in today's crash, which the Met Police say they are not treating as terrorism. A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and attempted murder.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to Ealing Broadway, Ealing at 14:29hrs on Saturday, 27 June to a report of a car colliding with multiple pedestrians.

"A total of five pedestrians were injured. Two were treated at the scene and three were taken to hospital. At this time, it is believed they have all suffered non-life-threatening or life-changing injuries.

"The car involved did not stop at the scene but was stopped in nearby Grange Park a short time later. The driver, a 34-year-old Somalia-born British man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and attempted murder.

"Due to the nature of the incident, local officers were in contact with officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London as they conducted their initial enquiries. While investigators are keeping an open mind as to any potential motive, the incident is not being treated as terrorism.

"Road closures are in place in the area and could remain in place for some time while the police investigation progresses.

"Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to contact the police on 101, providing the reference 4607/27JUN."

The Broadway remains closed following an earlier road traffic collision.

Three people are being treated for injuries in hospital, including one person who was rushed to a major trauma centre after the collision at around 2:30pm.

A London Ambulance Service spokespersons said: "We were called at 2.29pm today (27 June) to reports of a road traffic collision in Ealing Broadway, W5.

"We sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, a volunteer emergency responder crew and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

"We treated three patients at the scene and took one of them to a major trauma centre by road as a priority. The other two patients were taken to a local hospital."

The Broadway is closed in both directions with buses diverting around the area, accroding to traffic monitoring site Inrix.

The service states: "A4020 The Broadway in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident from B455 High Street to Spring Bridge Road."

The Broadway remains closed in both directions between High Street to Spring Bridge Road, according to Google traffic maps.

A witness filming the emergency response claims at least three people have been injured in the reported collision.

"This looks serious," the witness said in a video posted to X. "There's a car with some damage to its rear bumper. One person has been picked up and put into an ambulance, and there's two people lying on the floor."

Footage shared on social media appears to show an air ambulance landing close to the scene of the collision.

A number of ambulances are also said to be in attendance.

The Mirror has contacted the Met Police and London Ambulance Service for comment.

The crash happened near a set of traffic lights outside Marks and Spencer on The Broadway in Ealing.
