MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. Russia sees Armenia’s attempts to raise the stakes or simply resort to blackmail in its relations with Moscow, said Alexey Fadeyev, deputy director of the information and press department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"In the context of Russian-Armenian relations, instead of a constructive dialogue, we are seeing Yerevan’s attempts to raise the stakes or simply resort to blackmail," the diplomat said at a briefing.

This policy, according to Fadeyev, "includes harassment of pro-Russian figures, threats of arbitration proceedings against Russian companies operating in Armenia, which are major taxpayers to the republic's state budget, or demands for Moscow to pay billions of dollars for the facilities that the current authorities themselves did not want to recede at the dawn of their political activities.

"By the way, before making such big announcements, it would probably be fair to familiarize yourself with the legal framework, which clearly states who owes whom and how much."

Recently, Yerevan has been moving towards becoming a part of the European Union. On March 26, 2025, the Armenian parliament adopted a law initiating accession to the EU. Pashinyan said that Yerevan does not intend to withdraw from the EAEU and expects to combine membership in the organization and integration into the EU for as long as possible. As Russian President Vladimir Putin noted, integration into the EU automatically entails the cessation of Armenia’s cooperation with the EAEU and the loss of all the associated preferences that Yerevan benefited from throughout its time in the Eurasian Economic Union.
