The Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the Taxation and other Laws (Amendment) Bill without a debate due to persistent sloganeering by the Opposition over various issues, including alleged theft of donation at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

After the passage of the bill, through which the government also amended the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, the House was adjourned for the day.

Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE: Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah make a statement in the House on the police action against protesters during the July 20 demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

The Opposition has been pressing for a statement from the Home Minister over the police action during the protest.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge criticised Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju over his earlier remarks, referred to former Union Minister Arun Jaitley's observations on parliamentary disruptions, and alleged that the government was trying to avoid a discussion on the issue.

Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE: Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon on Thursday after Opposition members disrupted the House by raising slogans over various issues.

Soon after the listed papers were tabled, Chairman C P Radhakrishnan took up Zero Hour proceedings. However, Congress members demanded that Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge be allowed to speak.

As the Chair called members to raise their Zero Hour submissions, Congress MPs and members from some other Opposition parties began sloganeering over various issues.

Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday defended the Opposition's criticism over the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple, saying questioning the alleged theft of donations and valuables should not be construed as being "anti-Ram."

His remarks came after Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the Opposition of being anti-Lord Ram for repeatedly raising the issue in Parliament.

Rejecting the charge, Raut said the Opposition was questioning the alleged theft, not Lord Ram. “There was theft in the Ram Temple. Is Lord Ram responsible for that? We raised our voice against the theft, and now we are being called anti-Ram.”

"What kind of Hindutva is this? Money was stolen, donation boxes were looted, even ornaments and Sita Mata's mangalsutra were reportedly stolen. We raised these issues, and now we are labelled anti-Ram. Meanwhile, those responsible for the theft are being projected as Ram devotees," he said.

Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE: Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, seeking suspension of the day's business to discuss the police action during the July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Tagore also demanded a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the incident.

In the notice addressed to the Lok Sabha Secretary-General, the Congress MP said the matter was of "definite and urgent public importance" and warranted an immediate discussion in the House.
