Following years of development, Am I Audio have just officially launched their debut plug-in. Created in collaboration with Tokyo-based music technology experts Neurotone, Inc., I Am Choir is capable of turning a single vocal track into a full choral arrangement while preserving the words and melody of the original part.

The company say that the plug-in should be thought of as a “timbre transfer” processor rather than a composition or lyric-writing tool. They liken it to the way an amp simulator works, but rather than signals emerging sounding as if they’ve been played through and amp, they come out sounding like they’ve been sung by a choir! As well as generating multiple voices, I Am Choir includes a harmony engine that’s capable of adding parts either a third or a fifth above or below the input melody, with users able to select the relevant scale and key. 

There are no cloud-based services involved — all of the plug-in’s processing takes place natively on the user’s computer. 

The new arrival was created in partnership with three groups of singers, all of whom contributed their voices knowingly and consensually, and have received both compensation for their work and been provided with royalties on the plug-in. Here’s what’s included:

• Gospel Choir: Trained in partnership with a Los Angeles gospel choir, coordinated by Eric Howard.
• Kids' Choir : Trained in partnership with MUSYCA Children's Choir
• Shout: Trained with singers from Am I Audio’s personal network of artists, writers and producers

“Am I Audio are a team of lifelong musicians, songwriters, and producers. We built this I Am Choir, a first-of-its-kind AI choir plug-in, from inside the process, as people who deeply understand what it means to create, collaborate, and try to bring forward what is missing in the world.

“I Am Choir was built in direct collaboration with incredible singers. Every voice was contributed knowingly, consensually and ethically. The singers involved were compensated for their work and will share in the success of the tool through a royalty.

“We believe nothing will ever replace the magic of humans singing together in a room. This tool is not a replacement for that experience. It is an expansion of what is possible.

“Think of the first time you heard Pink Floyd, ‘Another brick wall pt. 2’ or Justice, ‘D.A.N.C.E’ or Gucci Mane, ‘Lemonade’, and felt immediately inspired to write a chorus for a kids’ choir. 

“Our goal is to give artists access to sounds, ideas and workflows that were previously inaccessible due to cost, logistics or geography, while honouring the people whose voices make those sounds possible.”

I Am Choir is supported on Macs running macOS 12 or later, with Windows support currently in development. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available. 

I Am Choir is available now, and is being offered at an introductory price of $169 (usually $199) until 1 September 2026.
