Marta Kostyuk is enjoying the finest season of her career, and her impressive form has continued at Wimbledon 2026 as the Ukrainian reached the third round with another hard-fought victory.

The 24-year-old, seeded No. 12, recovered from a set down to defeat Anna Blinkova 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 in the second round, matching her best result at the All England Club.

The victory earned her a third-round meeting with American Emma Navarro, against whom she entered the contest seeking her first win after four previous defeats.

From Teen Prodigy to Grand Slam Contender

Born in Kyiv, Kostyuk was introduced to tennis at an early age by her mother, former professional player Talina Beiko, who also coached her during her formative years.

She burst onto the international stage by winning the Australian Open girls' singles title at just 14 before making headlines the following year by reaching the third round of the Australian Open as a 15-year-old qualifier.

After several seasons of steady progress, 2026 has marked a breakthrough. Kostyuk captured her first WTA 1000 title at the Madrid Open before reaching her maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the French Open, establishing herself as one of the tour's elite. She also arrived at Wimbledon after winning 18 of her previous 19 matches, carrying significant momentum into the grass-court major.

She Refused to Stay Silent

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Kostyuk has become one of the most outspoken players on the WTA Tour regarding the war.

She has consistently declined to shake hands with Russian and Belarusian opponents following matches and has frequently used her platform to raise awareness about the ongoing conflict. After one of her title victories, she dedicated the triumph to 'the people fighting and dying' in Ukraine, saying her performances now carry added meaning while her country remains at war.

Her stance has made her one of the sport's most recognizable voices off the court as well as one of its rising stars.

Although clay has traditionally been Kostyuk's strongest surface, she has continued to improve on grass and arrived at Wimbledon playing some of the best tennis of her career.
