There was plenty of heartbreak on Sunday's Married At First Sight, with fan favourite couple Rachel Gilmore and Steven Danyluk revealing they had split.

And Rachel, 35, was reduced to tears at Daily Mail's Married At First Sight Final Dinner Party in Sydney, as she watched heartbreaking scenes of herself revealing the breakup, while Steven, 34, sat just metres away.

The cast reunited at the Ovolo Hotel in Woolloomooloo to watch Sunday's episode, which left Rachel in tears.

As the cast was glued to the screen, a throwback Commitment Ceremony scene played. It showed Rachel explaining her fears about the relationship to the experts.

'I'm scared that Steven will go back to his life in Sydney, and it's just going to be easier for him to let me go,' she said in the clip.

'Because he is time poor and he has his business, and so it might be a burden to try and maintain our relationship with me. So, he might just let me go. So, yeah, that's... that's my fear.'

It all became too much for Rachel, who leaned her head on Sam's shoulder for support as she wiped tears from her eyes.

Meanwhile, Steven, sitting just metres from his former bride, kept his focus firmly on the screen, so as not to make eye contact with Rachel.

Despite the revelation that they had split, there was a moment of hope for Rachel and Steven on Sunday night's episode.

Before sitting down to dinner, the couple had a private chat to dissect the end of their relationship, which culminated in Steven putting his wedding ring back on.

An emotional Rachel said: 'I can't believe that we're here by ourselves. I can't believe we're broken up still.'

Steven admitted that he hadn't made Rachel his 'number one priority' after Final Vows, instead focusing on his business.

Rachel then asked Steven if he wanted to 'repair' their marriage, telling him: 'I still have a lot of love and care for you. I don't want it to be like this.'

Steven replied: 'I don't want to be like this either, that's why I'm so hurt and upset.'

Rachel then reiterated how much she still cared for Steven, and after a long pause, he responded.

'I'm not wearing my ring. I know. But I do have it on me just in case,' he said, as he pulled out a gold band from his jacket pocket.

Speaking to producers, he added: 'So, I put the wedding ring back on. Me and Rachel really both care for each other. We don't want the relationship to end.'

However, it seems the reunion was short-lived, with Rachel revealing to Daily Mail the heartbreaking truth behind their split.

Reliving their Final Vows has been bittersweet for Rachel, who admitted the emotional scenes still hit hard.

'I said yes at the end… it was a really beautiful moment to relive,' she said.

'It just reminded me of how much I was in love with Steven and how much he meant to me… and how much I was willing to give up to be with him.'

'It's just really hard to get to this point… rewatching it knowing the total outcome,' she admitted.

According to Rachel, the cracks began almost immediately after filming wrapped.

Despite making big promises about building a future together, Steven returned to his normal life in Sydney – and never truly showed up for her.

'We'd really spoken about him coming to Melbourne… that was his opportunity to show up for me,' she explained.

'But there was always an excuse and a reason not to come.'

'He listed the reasons why he couldn't come… and they were all to do with me,' she revealed.

'That really took me by surprise. I should have been the reason you'd want to run to Melbourne.'
