Google Gets Into Tracking Tag Business

Google has introduced the Pixel Tag, its first tracking tag device. While Google has long offered its own, Android-device-based Bluetooth tracking network via Find Hub, it has previously relied on third parties to make the actual tracking tag hardware. The new Pixel Tag has a flattened pill shape with stainless steel on one side to resist flexing. Crucially, it has both Bluetooth Channel Sounding and UWB (Ultra Wide-Band), for "precision finding, with visual distance and directional cues for guidance." It also has all of the other features of the best tracking tags today, including: a battery that is easily user-replaceable, one-year battery life, a speaker that can be triggered remotely, a button that can be used to trigger a sound on your phone to find it, and IP67 dust- and water-resistance. Google's Find Hub lets you set up Left Behind alerts for this and other tracking tags, and has anti-stalking features that alert you when an unknown tracking tag seems to be traveling with you. Pixel Tags go on sale November 11 for $29 each, or $99 for a four-pack.
