We’ve seen dozens of pictures and video clips of BMW M4s being obliterated since the model debuted over a decade ago, but we’ve never seen one wreck so badly it was cut in half, until now.
Newly released police helicopter footage shows a stolen BMW M4 Convertible being driven at triple-digit speeds on a Florida freeway before slamming into a freeway sign support, splitting in half, bursting into flames, yet somehow leaving both occupants alive.

The chase itself happened in August 2025, but the video has only now been released as part of the court proceedings surrounding what investigators say was a major luxury car theft operation in Central Florida.
How The Chase Unfolded
According to News 6, deputies initially became involved after the M4’s owner used the car’s built in GPS tracking system to help locate the stolen convertible. Officers found the BMW in Longwood, where two men were reportedly trying to raise the soft top while removing items from inside. Once they realized law enforcement had arrived, they took off, still with the convertible top mid-cycle.
Rather than pursuing only from the ground, deputies called in the Seminole County Sheriff‘s Office helicopter, which tracked the BMW from above while relaying its movements. The footage shows the white convertible darting through traffic, crossing lanes, driving through the median, and at one stage reaching a reported 130 mph (210 km/h) despite the trunk lid acting like a giant airbrake.
Grass Is Rarely Grippy
After briefly leaving Interstate 4, the driver rejoined the freeway and continued weaving through traffic before attempting to pass slower vehicles using the right shoulder. The BMW then lost grip, slid sideways across the grass, and slammed broadside into the concrete support for an overhead freeway sign.
The impact was like an explosion. The drop-top M4 was literally cut in half, debris scattered across the roadway, and the wreckage immediately caught fire. The helicopter footage shows the exhaust system lying on the grass while one of the BMW’s orange leather rear seats came to rest in the middle of the freeway.
Against all odds, both occupants survived the crash, albeit with injuries. The driver, D’Mawuko Fugar, was behind the wheel when ground cops arrived and his passenger, Edrick Bush, located in nearby trees 10 minutes later with the help of the police copter’s thermal camera. They were arrested and, according to investigators, were allegedly connected to a theft ring responsible for stealing 33 luxury vehicles worth more than $2 million. Combined with fraud committed using credit cards found in the stolen cars, authorities estimate the operation caused nearly $3 million in losses.
As Deputy Sean Fitzgerald told News 6, the suspects targeted everything from BMWs and Mercedes G Classes to Ferraris and Lamborghinis. He also revealed something that most of us will find incredible: “There were a total of 33 cases that we know of in this area, and all these cases people left their keys in their car.”
