The heartbroken family of an innocent dog who was shot dead by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has been gifted more than $100,000 by well-wishers. 

Marie Marseille was celebrating the New York Knicks' NBA championship win on Saturday night at her apartment in Canoga Park, California, when her two-year-old Golden Saint Berdoodle, Jameson, was killed. 

Officers with the LAPD were called to her complex over a noise complaint and a possible domestic dispute between two women. 

When they noticed Jameson, Marseille said the cops asked her to 'put the dog away,' but as she tried to do so, her beloved pet escaped, approached the officers, and was shot dead, she told Fox 11.  

Heart-wrenching footage quickly circulated on social media of Marseille struggling to understand what happened as the dog lay lifeless in front of her.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has since been launched in memory of Jameson to help his family honor him. 

As of Monday afternoon, it has raised more than $100,000 and continues to grow. 

'Anyone who’s met Jameson would tell you he is the sweetest boy in the world,' the page read. 'Please help us raise money to get Justice for Jameson and any cremation fees.' 

Marseille, a nurse from New York, told the outlet that when officers first arrived, she informed them that she was alone, and then they noticed her pet. 

I'm like, "Oh no, it's just me,"' Marseille recalled. 'And then they saw Jameson, and the one officer said, "Put the dog away." I was like, "Yeah, no problem."' 

The dog mom said Jameson escaped outside and approached the cops: 'The next thing I know, Jameson is lying on the ground.' 

'But Jameson wasn’t baring his teeth, he wasn’t growling, he wasn’t aggressive, he wasn’t barking. He was just moving toward the officer,' she explained. 

However, according to a preliminary report from the LAPD, officials claimed that Jameson charged at one of the officers. 

Jameson, who was wearing a Knicks T-shirt, died at the scene.

The heartbreaking footage showed the aftermath of the shooting as Marseille cried over her deceased pup. 

Screaming in tears, she yelled out: 'The Knicks just won a championship. We were just so happy. We were just trying to celebrate the Knicks.' 

An angry neighbor was also heard telling the dozen cops standing by: 'What is the purpose of all of you? This is what we pay for?'

The distressing footage has garnered 16.4 million views, 3 million likes, and over 53,000 comments. 

The clip quickly sparked outrage and heartbreak online, with many users saying they were deeply shaken by the incident. 

'And that dog looks like the friendliest dog,' one user wrote. 

'Someone go hug her,' another said, referring to Marseille. 

Someone else commented: 'This just ruined my morning.' 

The LAPD said they are conducting an internal investigation into the incident, TMZ reported.
