Bugatti‘s porcelain white W16 Mistral ‘Blanc Éternel’ is traced with fine black lines that look almost hand-drawn over its own skin. The one-of-one commission comes through Bugatti Sur Mesure with Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM) Berlin, and brings the last roadgoing W16 Bugatti into conversation with a much older material culture.

The car is framed as a return to a story that began fifteen years ago, when Bugatti worked with KPM on the Veyron Grand Sport ‘L’Or Blanc.’ That earlier car took cues from a white porcelain vase designed for KPM by Enzo Mari, whose royal-blue brushstrokes suggested a way to read the volume of a hypercar through line.

‘Blanc Éternel’ revisits the idea at the end of the W16 era, replacing the hand-drawn fluidity of its predecessor with a graphic language pulled from the digital tools used to build the Mistral’s surfaces.

The W16 Mistral was sculpted through a fully digital design process, using Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS), to shape the roadster’s controlled surfaces. Those familiar with such modeling softwares as Rhinoceros or Autodesk Maya would be familiar with the 3D linework which marks the edges of a digital model.

For ‘Blanc Éternel,’ these hidden lines are rendered and expressed physically across the bodywork, turning the underlying geometry into a black-on-white composition that traces the hood, doors, C-line, air intakes, and X-shaped rear lights.

That digital origin still ends up in the hands of Bugatti’s craftspeople. The body is first painted pure white, then sanded and prepared before each line is placed with tape directly on the car. Areas around the pattern are masked, the tape channels are opened, and black paint is sprayed into the exposed paths, a process that depends on the eye as much as the software drawing behind it.

KPM Berlin’s porcelain appears throughout the Bugatti W16 Mistral ‘Blanc Éternel’ as a material presence beyond a visual cue alone. On the exterior, it forms the EB emblem — initials of founder Ettore Bugatti — the fuel and oil caps, and two engine-cover inlays marked with KPM Berlin’s royal scepter logo. The fit of these pieces carries its own technical demand, since porcelain shrinks by seventeen percent during firing and has to be modeled with that transformation already built in.

Inside, the same graphic linework continues across white leather. Bugatti developed a process for masking and painting the leather sections by hand, keeping the sharp black pattern durable enough for the cabin. Porcelain then moves into the parts a driver touches: the speaker cover plate, kneepad inlays, gear-shifter shells, center-console armrest inlay, and window-lifter buttons.

Beneath the porcelain and paint sits the final roadgoing expression of Bugatti’s 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine. The W16 Mistral was introduced as a 1,600 PS open-top roadster, with only 99 examples planned and the full production run already spoken for. In ‘Blanc Éternel,’ the model’s rarity becomes more specific, shaped around one commission that treats the car’s digital construction as its exterior ornament.

The piece lands at a moment when ultra-luxury car design is leaning deeper into individual commissions, but this one feels most interesting where it exposes process. A surface map becomes paintwork. A fragile ceramic material becomes a button, a cap, a shift shell. At the end of Bugatti’s W16 chapter, ‘Blanc Éternel’ turns the hypercar into a record of how it was drawn, made, and handled.
