1 seriously injured in 7-vehicle crash that shut down I-91 North in Meriden

One person was seriously injured, and six others sustained minor injuries in a seven-vehicle crash that shut down Interstate 91 North in Meriden for about seven-and-a-half hours on Friday night, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police responded to the crash on I-91 northbound just before Exit 16.
A Hino refrigerated box truck rear-ended a Volvo S60, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving five other vehicles, state police said.
The driver of the Volvo sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. The drivers of the six other vehicles suffered minor injuries and were also transported to area hospitals, according to state police.
State police had initially reported that one driver was unconscious and trapped inside a vehicle.
The highway was closed between exits 15 and 16 while emergency crews investigated the crash, recovered the vehicles and cleared the scene.
Firefighters, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Department of Consumer Protection all responded.
Interstate 91 northbound has since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
