A suspected Hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship has killed three people, with WHO confirming five cases and three more suspected infections, raising concerns over the deadly rodent-borne virus and its transmission risks.

What is Hantavirus?

Hantavirus is a rodent-borne virus that spreads to humans through infected rats and mice. The World Health Organization estimates that 10,000 to 100,000 cases occur globally every year. Some strains cause mild illness, while others can lead to severe lung and kidney complications.
