Abercrombie & Fitch has come a loooong way since the early aughts, and I feel like that’s worth acknowledging before we get into the jeans. I actually worked there back then, and let’s just say “inclusive” wasn’t exactly the word that came to mind. I remember regularly having a hard time finding my own size while the store seemed to be stocked with endless 0s and 2s. (I did love the loud music, though!)

Abercrombie Denim Review: Wide-Leg, No Fade Black & Ultra Loose

A LOT has changed since then. Abercrombie has made a real effort to be more inclusive, not just with the people they feature and the clothes themselves, but by supporting organizations that help LGBTQ+ youth and young people with their mental health. And as someone who remembers what the brand used to be like, I actually feel good about shopping there now.

One thing that hasn’t changed, though? Their denim has always been good. It’s just a whole lot easier to find a pair that actually works for you now. Their jeans come in sizes 23–38, Classic and Curve Love fits, and five different lengths.

Abercrombie Drapey Rigid High Rise Wide Leg Jeans

The latest pair I tried is their High Rise Wide Leg Jean, and I LOVE them. They’re an on-trend shape that somehow doesn’t feel overly trendy, if that makes sense? Like I can wear them now without feeling like I’ll be completely over them next year.

They’re definitely baggier than the jeans I typically wear, but I’m really liking the more relaxed shape. The 12″ rise gives them some shape through the waist, which helps balance out the volume of the wide legs. They’re not exactly sexy jeans, but there’s something really cool about the relaxed shape. They have that laid-back, slightly slouchy look without actually looking sloppy.

And although this particular top doesn’t work for me without a sweater over it (um, hello girls!), reviewers LOVE it. (Maybe I should try a medium?) I do love how it looks with these jeans, though. The lace and satin dress them up a bit and are such a pretty contrast to the loose, laid-back shape.

“Drapey rigid” may sound like a contradiction, but don’t let the rigid part scare you. I hate stiff, thick denim, and although there’s no stretch to these, the fabric is lightweight and comfortable (thanks to the Lyocell!). They feel soft and have enough movement to give them that nice drape instead of feeling heavy or restrictive.

I ordered my usual size 28 in the regular inseam (30.5″) since I typically like to wear my jeans with a little heel. For reference, the short inseam is 28.5″ and the long is 32.5″ (they also offer extra short and extra long). The regular length was perfect with most of my 2–3″ heels. The hems just graze the floor without becoming a tripping hazard. Some reviewers suggest sizing down, but I actually preferred my regular size for this style. The slightly roomier fit feels intentional with the whole laid-back shape.

Abercrombie Drapey Rigid High Rise Wide Leg Jeans In No Fade Black

I tried them in black, too, specifically the No Fade Black (designed to resist fading for up to 10 washes). This wash doesn’t have the Lyocell in it (although the regular black does!), so the denim feels a bit more structured. But I actually think that works with the black color. They feel a little more elevated, almost like they could pass for dress pants.

And there are SO many other versions of these jeans. In addition to lighter and darker denim washes, there are cuffed, embroidered and distressed options, plus solid colors like brown, yellow and red. So if you love the fit, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll find a wash (or two) you like.

I also have to shout out this ridiculously soft cardigan. It also comes in a ton of colors, and I love how versatile it is. Layer it over a tee or cami, or wear it on its own. I like it over my go-to “brami” for a clean look, either buttoned up or tucked in like I have it here.

Abercrombie’s Top Rated Low Rise Ultra Loose Jeans

I also wanted to share these Ultra Loose Jeans. Low-rise denim is typically a little scary on my curvier body (these have an 8.5″ rise), but these are loose enough that there was no muffin top happening. They actually remind me of my favorite low-rise fits from back in the day, and I love the looser shape paired with a fitted top.

They also work surprisingly well with cropped sweaters and cardigans. Keeping the waist visible helps prevent all that volume from feeling too big and baggy.

Unfortunately for me, Greenlea loved these so much she stole them. 😂 I’m wearing my usual 28s in the regular inseam with heels, and even though she’s much shorter than I am, she loves the oversized fit and extra length. It totally takes me back to high school and all the ridiculously baggy jeans we wore!

I’m really impressed with Abercrombie’s denim right now. The High Rise Wide Legs are my favorite of the two, but I genuinely liked both styles (and apparently Greenlea did, too). With five lengths, two fits and SO many washes and colors to choose from, it’s just so much easier to find a pair that works. And the prices are pretty great, too, especially on sale!
