Genesis has pulled the wraps off the GV90, its first 3-row family electric SUV that seems designed to beat Tesla's minimalistic approach to features and interior.
The GV90's Arch Gate, for instance, is the world's first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach doors, letting front and rear doors swing open in unison for a limousine entrance. Tesla's falcon wing doors on the Model X were once the industry's talk, but Genesis's coach doors feel like a generational leap when it comes to family entry and exit comforts.
Genesis GV90 range and featuresUnder the floor sits a 123.5 kWh battery paired with 657 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, good for roughly 310 miles of range and a 10-80% fast charge in 22 minutes. That's competitive with, though not dramatically ahead of, Tesla's Performance tier output, but Genesis leans hard into ride quality. It has equipped the GV90 with a multi-chamber air suspension and active rear wheel steering at five degrees for a smoother feel and a tight turning radius of the big 3-row SUV.
Where Genesis pulls dramatically ahead is cabin comforts. A 25-inch head-up display and a pop-up 23.6-inch OLED Cinematic Display dwarf Tesla's fixed center touchscreen on anything but the Cybercab, while a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen system with Dolby Atmos outdoes most vehicles in its class. Safety tech goes further too, with the world's first roof airbag across the panoramic glass that sits among a 12-airbag system. This is an extreme rollover protection system that Tesla, or anyone else, doesn't offer yet.
Genesis isn't trying to beat Tesla on autonomous driving software, and at this point it couldn't, but it does offer direct Supercharger access and bets that craftsmanship, features, and sensory indulgence from the cashmere trim and motorized swiveling seats will lure buyers who find Tesla's minimalism a little too cold. Whether that bet pays off will depend on price and release timeline, both of which are yet to be confirmed.

Wooed by tech since the industrial espionage of Apple computers and the times of pixelized Nintendos, Daniel went and opened a gaming club when personal computers and consoles were still an expensive rarity. Nowadays, fascination is not with specs and speed but rather the lifestyle that computers in our pocket, house, and car have shoehorned us in, from the infinite scroll and the privacy hazards to authenticating every bit and move of our existence.
