An adult and three juveniles have been charged after a fatal crash involving a vehicle they allegedly stole from Longport.

The stolen vehicle crashed head-on into another car on Route 50 in Hamilton Township at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, killing two people in the other vehicle, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Their names are not being released pending notification of next of kin.

The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability also is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

While they did not say why, it is likely connected to reports that there may have be a police pursuit prior to the crash. There has been no official confirmation that police were involved.

The Attorney General’s Office cited the 2019 law that requires the office to conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody. It requires that all such investigations be presented to a grand jury to determine if the evidence supports the return of an indictment against the officer or officers involved.

The road was closed to traffic between Second and Fourth streets while police investigated and cleared the scene.

The exact charges and the names of those charged have not been released.

Video online shows the stolen vehicle veer into oncoming traffic and crash into another car.
