BRUNSWICK – Leo Henry Thiboutot passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at home surrounded by his close family after a short illness. He was born Dec. 19, 1942, in Brunswick, Maine, to Alphonse V. Thiboutot of Lewiston, Maine and Aldea E. Morin of Brunswick, Maine.
Leo spent his early years hunting, fishing and playing golf until he met the love of his life, Carol A. Templeman of Pensacola, Fla. They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this October 31.
Leo spent many happy hours flyfishing, tying his own flies along with teaching and sharing his fishing skills with others. One of his favorite fishing spots was Lindsay Cove at Pierce Pond located in New Portland, Maine. He also enjoyed oil painting where he self-taught from watching and reading from Bob Ross, many smiles from the happy little trees in his paintings. Leo also served as an English translator to the many French speaking customers at Brunswick Coal. Leo will also be fondly remembered for his willingness to always lend a helping hand; no request was too big or too small.
Leo graduated from Brunswick High School in 1963, married Carol and started work at Pejepscot Paper Mill where he worked for 20 years before going to work at Brunswick Coal and Lumber until his retirement. Right out of high school, Leo also served in the Army National Guard for six years.
Leo’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Carol and loving father to his daughters Caleen Alexanderson of Marshfield, Mass., Stephanie Bollinger of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Alison Hartill of Bath, Maine and Heidi Flanders of Bowdoinham, Maine. He also enjoyed his grandchildren Jonathan, Bailey, Blane, Ian, Cole, Kate and Michael (MJ). He loved being part of their lives and could often be found fishing, hunting, painting or telling stories with them.
Leo also leaves behind a brother, Luke Thiboutot of Topsham, Maine and two sisters Corrine Dumont and Nina Thiboutot both of Brunswick, Maine; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Many deep and appreciative thank you goes out to Andwell Hospice in Lewiston for the loving and supporting team who helped him and his family in his final weeks and days.
A memorial service will be held August 21 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 132 McKeen Street Brunswick, from 10 – 11 a.m. with a short reception following in the St. Charles Hall.
