The Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks with A Night of Remembrance on Friday, Sept. 11.

The evening will feature Medal of Honor Recipient Leroy Petry and retired four-star General B.B. Bell in a fireside conversation moderated by NewsChannel 9 anchor Josh Roe. Together, they will reflect on how September 11 shaped their lives, their service and the nation - and consider how its lessons can be preserved for future generations.

Bell, a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga graduate, was serving at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. He had left the building shortly before the attack to attend a hearing on Capitol Hill. When he returned, he discovered that his office had been destroyed and his briefcase scorched in the space where he had been working only hours earlier.

Mr. Petry received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan, where he risked his life to protect fellow soldiers during combat. His story embodies the courage, sacrifice and commitment that emerged across the nation following September 11.

The program will begin with a reception featuring light hors d’oeuvres in the Heritage Center’s main gallery, followed by the moderated conversation hosted by Josh Roe in the Heritage Center's main Gallery.

The event is presented in partnership with the Chattanooga Scenic City Women’s Network and the Veteran and Military Affairs Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
