The University of Sussex Business School has retained its position as the top-ranked business school in the UK for Business and Management research income for the fourth consecutive year, according to the latest report from the UK’s Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS).

Published in May 2026, the report Research Income for Business and Management places the Business School first in the UK based on total research funding over the combined three-year period 2021/22 to 2023/24.

Sussex’s achievement comes at a time of sustained growth for Business and Management research across the UK. According to the CABS report, the discipline attracted a record £101.5 million in research income in 2023/24, marking the eighth consecutive year of growth.

Using data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), the report shows that Sussex generated a total of £17.4 million in research income across the three years, more than any other UK institution.

Despite this progress, the report also found that Business and Management remains one of the most underfunded disciplines relative to the size of its research community,
