Ray Luzier is an American musician who has a net worth of $15 million. Ray Luzier is best known as the drummer for Korn, joining the band's touring lineup in 2008 and becoming an official member in 2009. By the time he arrived, Korn had already sold tens of millions of records and established itself as one of the defining heavy-rock bands of its generation, but Luzier has since spent nearly two decades recording and touring with the group.
Unlike Korn's original members, Luzier does not share ownership in much of the blockbuster 1990s catalog that produced songs such as "Freak on a Leash" and "Got the Life." His wealth instead reflects a long career as an elite professional drummer, followed by years of touring, recording, and songwriting with Korn. He has appeared on Korn albums including "Korn III: Remember Who You Are," "The Path of Totality," "The Paradigm Shift," "The Serenity of Suffering," "The Nothing," and "Requiem."
Before Korn, Luzier spent years performing with David Lee Roth and later joined Army of Anyone. He has also recorded with KXM, the supergroup he formed with guitarist George Lynch and bassist/vocalist dUg Pinnick.
Early Life and EducationRaymond Lee Luzier was born on June 14, 1970, in Pennsylvania and grew up on a farm near West Newton, outside Pittsburgh. He began playing drums at around five years old and participated in jazz, concert, and marching bands while in school.
After graduating from high school, Luzier moved to Los Angeles to study at the Musicians Institute. He graduated from the school's Percussion Institute of Technology in 1989.
Luzier later returned to Musicians Institute as an instructor, teaching there from 1992 until 2001. The combination of formal training, teaching, session work, and live performance helped establish him as a highly technical and versatile drummer.
David Lee Roth and Early Professional CareerLuzier's career took a major step forward when he began working with former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth. He played in Roth's band from 1997 through 2005 and performed on recordings including "DLR Band" and "Diamond Dave."
During this period, Luzier also performed with other musicians and projects. He played with Steel Panther during the band's early years and became part of Army of Anyone, which featured Filter singer Richard Patrick along with Stone Temple Pilots members Robert and Dean DeLeo.
Army of Anyone released its self-titled album in 2006. Although the group was short-lived, it further established Luzier within the hard-rock community.
Joining KornKorn needed a permanent drummer following the departure of founding member David Silveria. A number of musicians performed with the band temporarily before Luzier auditioned.
According to a frequently repeated story surrounding the audition, Luzier was asked to learn five Korn songs but arrived prepared to play around 30. He impressed guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer and bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu and was selected for the position.
Luzier played his first concert with Korn in Dublin in January 2008. After spending the year touring with the group, he was formally recognized as a permanent member in 2009.
His first Korn studio album was 2010's "Korn III: Remember Who You Are." He followed it with "The Path of Totality," an experimental record incorporating dubstep and electronic producers.
Guitarist Brian "Head" Welch returned to Korn before 2013's "The Paradigm Shift." Luzier subsequently played on "The Serenity of Suffering," "The Nothing," and "Requiem."
Working alongside vocalist Jonathan Davis, Munky, Head, and Fieldy, Luzier helped Korn maintain its status as a major international touring act decades after the band's commercial breakthrough.

Luzier is known for a highly technical style combining power, precision, double-bass drumming, intricate fills, and an unusually large drum setup. His approach differs from Silveria's funkier early-Korn style while still preserving the strong rhythmic foundation required by the band's music.
Over the years, Luzier has maintained relationships with major drum and percussion manufacturers and has conducted clinics and instructional appearances in addition to performing.
KXM and Other ProjectsIn 2014, Luzier formed KXM with guitarist George Lynch of Dokken and Lynch Mob and bassist/vocalist dUg Pinnick of King's X. The name combined the three musicians' primary bands: Korn, King's X, and Lynch Mob.
KXM released its self-titled debut in 2014, followed by "Scatterbrain" in 2017 and "Circle of Dolls" in 2019.
Luzier has also contributed to recordings by other musicians and played drums on material outside Korn throughout his career.
Home Studio and Personal LifeLuzier eventually settled with his family in Franklin, Tennessee, outside Nashville. His property includes a professional home recording facility known as Lose Yer Ear Studio, allowing him to record drum tracks and work on outside projects without relying exclusively on commercial studios.
He is married and has two sons.
