The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said a deadly multi-vehicle crash happened on I-40 EB in the Hermitage area this morning, causing a portion of the interstate to remain closed at this time.

Metro Police is on the scene of the multi-vehicle crash. According to officials, the crash was reported around 3 a.m. The crash involved a fully engulfed sedan, an overturned garbage truck, and multiple other passenger vehicles.

Police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davidson County officials said I-40 eastbound near exit 221 (Old Hickory Blvd) is closed due to the crash. Traffic is being diverted to exit 219 (Stewart's Ferry Pk).
