New York real estate attorney Brian Helweil has landed at law firm Greenberg Traurig.

Helweil, an attorney with experience representing both landlords and tenants, will serve as a shareholder in the law firm’s global real estate practice in its New York office, according to a Tuesday announcement. 

“[Helweil] further strengthens our depth and expertise in the New York leasing market and beyond,” Richard A. Rosenbaum, executive chairman of Greenberg Traurig, said in a statement.  

Rosenbaum added that increasing Greenberg Traurig’s “critical mass” in New York City’s thriving office leasing market is a strategic priority for the firm. 

Helweil’s practice focuses on commercial office and retail leasing, as well as acquisitions, dispositions, financings and joint ventures in New York and across the U.S. He joins Greenberg Traurig from law firm Loeb & Loeb, where he spent roughly three years as a partner representing owners, developers, investors, landlords and tenants. Helweil also previously worked as an associate at Fried Frank.

During his career, Halweil has represented clients in massive headquarters leases with square footages spanning six to seven figures, according to the announcement, including a 1 million-plus-square-foot headquarters lease for a multinational media and entertainment company.

Helweil earned his bachelor’s degree from New York University and his juris doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
