Located on Edisto Island, South Carolina, the one-acre property at 8060 Maxie Road was once part of the Maxcy Place plantation. On August 6, 2018, the nonprofit 8060 Maxie Road, Inc. purchased the land at market value to place a strict restrictive covenant on it, permanently protecting the property from any future development or use. This is a direct reaction to General Sherman's Special Field Order 15 promising 40 acres to freed slaves as reparation. After former slaves started working the Maxcy Place acreage, Andrew Jackson rescinded the Field Order and gave the land back to its previous owners. This land art secures the inability for anyone to use this one acre site.
