Gordon Ramsay is appearing in a landmark BBC series titled The Rise of the Rockstar Chef from his Studio Ramsay Global outfit.

Ramsay is one of three chefs being profiled alongside Marco Pierre White and Heston Blumenthal.

Set against the backdrop of the Cool Britannia era, The Rise of the Rockstar Chef will explore how the chefs’ unwavering ambition and intense rivalry reshaped Britain’s restaurant industry and redefined what it meant to be a fine dining chef. It will feature candid testimony from Ramsay and the other two as well as those who witnessed the fights, fall-outs and feuds first-hand, including renowned food critics, maîtres d’ and former commis chefs.

Ramsay is a huge star on both sides of the pond and has made hundreds of hours of cooking shows for Fox, which is selling the show via its distribution arm Fox Entertainment Global.

Studio Ramsay Chief Creative Officer Lisa Edwards said: “Nineties and noughties nostalgia is at an all time high for both those of us who were there and those that weren’t – the heady mix of an uprising in fashion, politics and music makes it a decade like no other. But there was another rock and roll revolution happening in the UK. It was the decade that really put British food on the map led by the original Rock Star Chefs, Marco Gordon and Heston. Its the story of rivalry and thepursuit of perfection where the real heat was not just in the kitchen.

The Rise of the Rockstar Chef was commissioned for BBC One and iPlayer by Catherine Catton, Head of Commissioning for Factual Entertainment and Events, while Ricky Cooper is BBC commissioning editor. The series director and producer is Zoë Dobson, the EPs are Edwards and Amanda Westwood, the executive in charge of production is Jess Holder and the line producer is Emma Pinching.
