As I stated a couple of weeks ago, we are going to have some occasional late week additional sports threads to build on the Saturday college football threads since when I rank the games I am going to cover (based on the Athletic’s rankings), some of them are before Saturday and it’s silly to call those games in a Saturday thread. Plus this blog needs more sports coverage. There weren’t any potential top games last week, but there are two this week.

My favorite thing right now in sports is Lane Kiffin, the biggest douchebag in all of sports, responding to serious legal issues around his attempting to bring back NFL players to college by using Chat GPT over and over again. No one is stupider with new technology than the olds. Kiffin (like myself) is now among the olds. Of course he would do this! Of course. More on this asshole tomorrow.

Speaking of douchebags, there’s Steve Sarkisian and Arch Manning and their misogyny after Texas defeated Ohio State last week. Sark is about as good a human and Kiffin so this is not surprising.

And speaking of terribleness, Oregon’s loss to Oklahoma State made me sick. What happens when you have a $50 million roster and a successful head coach who falls to his own arrogance and hires internally for coordinator replacements when the OC and DC take head coaching jobs? You end up with rank incompetence, schemes where players don’t know where they are supposed to be, and losses to a team that had just lost to Tulsa the week before. I suspect a very long season in Eugene and I am UNHAPPY. How is Dante Moore tipping run or pass by feet placement and how is this noticed by Oklahoma State coaches before the Oregon coaches seeing it every day? Bad coaching, that’s why! Fuck!

Two picks this week.

1. #3 Miami at #50 Wake Forest (+20.5), 7:30, ESPN. Dang, Miami looks great. It’s hard to say until they play anyone real. Wake Forest is kind of a test on the road, but not really. I do not see an upset here in any way shape or form and I think Miami, with a very high powered offense, blows them out and covers this spread. If Mario Cristobal wins a Natty before Dan Lanning does, I am going to be very upset.
2. #17 Houston at #16 Texas Tech (-7.5), 8, FOX. Texas Tech nearly got exposed last week before getting by Oregon State in Corvallis. Houston is a good team. They also beat Oregon State. The final scores weren’t that different, but the games were very different, with Houston never in doubt and Tech quite in doubt until too late in the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a sign that Tech is a bit overrated. In any case, I like Houston covering this spread.
