Wardogs is already one of the year's biggest PC hits on Steam, but new data has revealed how its success compares to other mega-hits like Arc Raiders and Helldivers 2, as well as struggling titles like Marathon. This isn't that surprising, given Wardogs managed to sell over 1 million copies within hours of launch.

According to Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott, Wardogs has sold over 2.2 million copies so far. When aligning the game's Steam launch period with those of Arc Raiders (1.7 million) and Helldivers 2 (1 million), Wardogs' pace is clearly faster.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether Wardogs could keep up that momentum and match - or outperform - the two juggernauts' lifetime performance. Despite the differences in core gameplay and genre, Arc Raiders and Helldrivers 2 make for an excellent comparison point simply because they both launched at the same $40 (~£35) price.

One other recent $40 release that does not compare favourably to Wardogs is Bungie's Marathon. Elliott revealed Wardogs has now made more money than Marathon across all platforms, despite only being available on a single one. Wardogs has generated $70m (~£52.2m) in revenue, earning it the number seven spot on Steam's 2026 list of new games when ranked by revenue. PlayStation and Xbox ports of Wardogs are planned, but they won't be out until sometime in 2028.

"Wardogs hits the modern pricing sweet spot, sitting below the friction point of a $70 triple-A release while capturing that chunky volume of players priced out of premium titles," Rhys Elliott wrote on X.

Elliott's analysis also revealed Wardogs converted 11 percent of its Steam Wishlists into sales. 57 percent of all the game's Steam Wishlists were made in the last month, indicating the game had "a late, hot hype cycle" as opposed to a slow burn.

Despite the game's big success, the last few days have been a little tumultuous for maker Bulkhead. Studio CEO Joe Brammer discussed the studio's work culture, particularly the subject of crunch and its hiring criteria on a recent podcast appearance. Brammer later responded to his own controversial comments on X which further stoked the fires. Brammer addressed the controversy in a statement to Eurogamer, explaining his comments.

"I was speaking informally about our culture and the kind of environment we have at Bulkhead, rather than setting out our formal recruitment process," Brammer said of the studio's hiring process. "My comments were really about being upfront about the kind of studio we are and making sure it's the right fit for both sides."
