Sun prices aren't rising.

Choice-and-consequence horror game Until Dawn 2, which only just got a release date, has also gone up for pre-ordering on the PlayStation Store. And the revealing bit about this is that the PS5-exclusive title is priced £45 on the UK PS Store (as spotted by Push Square), which makes it a slightly cheaper offering than a full-priced game normally is.

This lower price is notable among the line-up of first-party PlayStation Studios games. This year's Saros was priced £70 / $70, and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls was £60 / $60. And later this month, Marvel's Wolverine is £70 / $70 again.

It's a pleasing discovery, although it does beg the question of "why?". Could the price signify a shorter adventure than we're typically used to?

Until Dawn 2 trades the snowy lodge environment of the first game for a tropical resort called Akishima Island, and stars an entirely new cast of characters, albeit with one exception - the recurring Peter Stormare character of Dr. Hill.

The sequel is not developed by the original's Supermassive Games, incidentally. Instead, it's helmed by Firesprite Games, with some help from Dispatch developer AdHoc Studio.

The original Until Dawn celebrated its 10th anniversary last year. We spoke to creative director Will Byles about how the game set a new standard for cinematic horror storytelling in games. In the same interview, Byles recalled how Sony pulled all marketing at the last minute after not liking the game.

Until Dawn 2 is set for release on 28th January on PS5.
