Euro area government bond yields fell Monday as lower oil prices eased inflation concerns. Germany’s 10-year Bund yield dropped 4.5 basis points to 3.48%. Investors focused on potential diplomatic progress over Iran and recovering Saudi oil shipments. German regional election gains by far-left and AfD parties had limited market impact.

Euro area benchmark government bond yields fell on Monday, tracking a decline in oil prices as investors focused on the potential for easing inflation pressures from lower energy costs. The move came despite political developments in Germany, where the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) and a far-left party made gains in regional elections over the weekend.

Germany's 10-year Bund yield fell 4.5 basis points to 3.48%, almost fully reversing Friday's increase, according to Reuters.

The decline in bond yields followed a retreat in oil prices to their lowest level in more than a week. Investors were encouraged by hopes that diplomatic efforts over the Iran war could gain momentum during the United Nations meetings this week.

Markets were also watching signs of a partial recovery in oil shipments from Saudi Arabia, although attacks by Yemen's Houthi group continued to pose risks to regional supply.

Political developments in Germany had a limited impact on bond markets. The far-left party won the Berlin state election, while the AfD was projected to secure the largest share of votes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said his government would accelerate reforms aimed at putting Europe's largest economy on a stronger footing.

The muted bond-market reaction suggested that investors remained more focused on energy prices and their implications for inflation and monetary policy than on the regional election results. Lower oil prices can ease concerns about renewed inflationary pressures, potentially reducing the need for central banks to maintain restrictive interest rates for longer, according to Reuters.
