The new entry-level sedan adopts the Tata Aeris moniker, bringing more aggressive styling

Tata has announced the upcoming launch of the new Aeris, an entry-level urban sedan for the Indian market, serving as a replacement for the long-running Tigor. The Tata Aeris appeared on official teasers and leaked patent drawings, revealing it is a heavily updated version of its predecessor rather than a clean-sheet design.

The Tata Tigor is the sedan sibling of the Tiago hatchback. It was introduced back in 2017, and received two consecutive facelifts in 2020 and 2025. However, nearly ten years after its launch, the time has come for a replacement, which is set to arrive on September 25 in the form of the new Aeris.

The teaser video suggests that the Aeris will adopt aggressive LED headlights inspired by the recently updated Tiago hatch, albeit combined with sportier bumper intakes. We can also see a portion of the rear quarter panels, hinting at redesigned LED taillights and a new purple shade for the sculpted bodywork.

Local media have gained access to leaked patent drawings of the sedan, giving us an even better idea of its exterior design. The model appears to retain the notchback silhouette and compact footprint of its predecessor, which measures 3,995 mm (157.3 in) long.

The interior will likely benefit from trim, comfort and tech refinements. Still, the 2025 update already brought the latest hardware to the outgoing Tigor, including a 10.25-inch infotainment display and the two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata emblem.

As reported by Autocar India, the Aeris is expected to retain the powertrain options of its predecessor. The naturally-aspirated 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine is good for 85 hp (63 kW / 86 PS) while the bi-fuel CNG variant generates up to 74 hp (56 kW / 76 PS). In the Tigor, power is transmitted to the front axle via a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic. We also expect a zero-emission variant to replace the Tigor EV, which joined the lineup in 2019.

We will learn more about the new Tata Aeris when it officially debuts on September 25. Pricing will likely be similar to the outgoing Tigor which starts at ₹5.70 lakh ($6,000) and tops out at ₹9.10 lakh ($9,500), serving as one of the most affordable sedans in the Indian market.

Rivals of the Tata Aeris include the Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Honda Amaze, all benefiting from the tax incentives available for models measuring under 4 m (157.5 in) long.
