A quiet Canadian neighborhood has erupted after residents in a new subdivision were accused of creating a 'community garbage pile' that had been growing for months.

Long-time residents of the lakeside Ontario town of Innisfil, about 68 miles north of Toronto, are furious about the swelling mountain of trash, which includes broken porcelain toilet seats, rubber tires and a used mattress among other common household items.

Surveillance footage obtained by CTV showed a man getting out of his car to make three trips to the pile to dump his garbage before driving away in broad daylight.

Deputy Mayor Kenneth Fowler told the outlet there had previously been a green garbage dumpster in the area, but that it had since been removed and residents continued to dump their trash in the same spot.

'It shows no love for the community. It shows no respect to the neighbors... It’s just downright wrong,' Fowler told CTV. 'The landfill is less than 20 minutes away. I’ve driven there numerous times myself and the fact of the matter is for someone to do this is unconscionable.' 

Innisfil resident Justin Eddy added: 'It's ridiculous, they make dumping spots for stuff like that, like the dump.'

Social media users from nearby have been voicing their complaints online blaming the new residents for degrading the once-charming character of the community. 

'[The garbage pile] has been growing all summer as residents keep adding to it. This is not the Canada I grew up in,' a user said on X, accompanied with pictures of the growing dump. 

Some locals are blaming the mess on a proposed development to build 153 residential dwellings on Webster Boulevard, which was approved to move forward in early August, according to the Village Report. 

'There is no local garbage pickup in that area yet, as it’s brand new. The bin had been removed and a replacement had not yet been provided, and residents continued to use the coordinates to leave their garbage until the city was contacted and it was promptly cleaned up,' one user wrote on X. 

According to CTV, one of these developers has felt responsible for keeping the garbage pile contained and off the road, despite not contributing to it himself.  

The developer makes sure his bins are left behind fencing to avoid a similar outcome, the outlet reported. 

The Town of Innisfil prohibits littering and dumping, and claims anyone found guilty is subject to a $2,000 fine. 

'Innisfil is a waterfront community. When garbage is not thrown away properly, it can end up in our lakes and waterways,' the town's website wrote.
