Installing a retail Samsung SSD may work, but HPE may identify it as an unsupported or non-HPE drive because it does not have HPE firmware. On some ProLiant models, this can cause higher fan speeds, although the behavior depends on the server generation, storage controller, drive bay, and firmware versions.Installing the HPE Agentless Management Service (AMS) is useful because it allows the operating system to provide additional hardware and storage information to iLO. However, AMS is not a guaranteed fix for high fan speed caused by an unsupported SSD. The fans may continue running faster if iLO cannot validate or properly monitor the drive.
