BRUNSWICK — Maine State Police are still investigating an incident at a mobile home park in Brunswick where a man was found dead Tuesday.

Questions remain about what happened at the home at 5 Valerie Ave., where police responded in the early-morning hours to a report of gunshots and ultimately arrested a resident of the home “on charges related to the incident.”

But Maine State Police said Wednesday that no one has been charged in connection with the death and that the man’s cause of death has not yet been determined.

The resident who was arrested was booked at the Cumberland County Jail on Tuesday morning for allegedly refusing to submit to arrest and violating conditions of his release. He was released on $500 bail Tuesday night, according to jail records. The Press Herald is not naming the resident because state police confirmed he has not been charged in the death.

The incident drew a large police presence Tuesday to Bay Bridge Estates, a private mobile home park off Old Bath Road in east Brunswick.

Treyvon McKenzie, who lives near the home on Valerie Avenue, told a reporter that he was awakened by a loud bang from his neighbor’s home around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. About 10 minutes later, he said he heard police yelling at a person, then spotted what he believed to be a body.

While officers performed CPR on the person, McKenzie said he heard what sounded like two gunshots and more yelling. McKenzie said he saw first responders put a sheet over the body and escort a person into a police cruiser.

“It’s very surprising, especially because I’ve never seen anybody coming in and out of that house,” McKenzie said.

After speaking with McKenzie on Wednesday, a reporter and photographer were asked by management to leave the mobile home park.

Authorities are waiting for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine how the man died. State police spokesperson Shannon Moss said the department will not release his name until the autopsy has been completed.
