Marvel's Wolverine has received a hotfix update that addresses one of the core features in the game many people have an issue with: scent trails. These are represented on screen by a gassy, bright blue line, and they're used by Wolverine to locate his next mission objective and to find collectibles in the world.

This patch, version 01.001.005, doesn't remove the scent trails but it does change their opacity so they're less pronounced. The same also extends to audio sense indicators, toning them down.

In the blog post announcing the hotfix, developer Insomniac Games said it "continues to evaluate ways to further improve senses", and that it's exploring offering the ability to toggle them off entirely in a future update.

Dubbed "fart gas" by some players, the feature has been widely mocked online. Even before the game's launch, fans asked for a toggle to turn it off once it became clear they found the scents distracting.

Insomniac has also addressed some game crashes, which apparently "a small percentage of players" were experiencing.

Although Sony has yet to announce any official sales figures for Marvel's Wolverine, early estimates put it at 1.9 million copies. This includes digital pre-orders as well as launch day sales, amounting to around $130m (~£97m) in revenue for Sony so far. Incidentally, 22.9 percent of sales came from the physical version, which is lower than the developer's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 game, with 35 percent.

In Eurogamer's Marvel's Wolverine review, Chris Tapsell was underwhelmed by the game's outdated, old-school design, which was partly redeemed by its likeable character work.
