United States President Donald Trump was involved in yet another controversy when he called FIFA President Gianni Infantino to help get USMNT striker Folarin Balogun’s one-game suspension rescinded during the 2026 World Cup.

More ties between Infantino were revealed last week when The Times’ Martyn Ziegler reported on his plans to sell a private stake in future World Cups to private investors, including Josh Kushner, the younger brother of Jared Kushner, the United States Special Envoy for Peace Missions and husband of Trump’s daughter, Ivanka.

Predictably, the plans were met with global outrage, leading Infantino to back off of his plans, but the damage was already done. Soccer federations across the globe are uniting to increase pressure to oust Infantino, leading to him going to Trump for support and help out of the sticky situation he has found himself in.

“Gianni Infantino is set to hold a meeting with senior figures in the Trump administration as he seeks support to continue at FIFA. Infantino has already been calling federations for public support as pressure grows for him to resign,” Ben Jacobs reported on Sunday.

Now, a senior official in Trump’s administration is confirming that the President plans on doing whatever he can to help Infantino keep his job.

“Gianni helped us a lot to deliver the best World Cup ever. The president likes him a lot. I am sure the president will do everything possible to help him,” the official told The Telegraph, adding, “He is a loyal person.”

Considering top democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, is gearing up for an investigation into FIFA’s communications with Trump, members of his administration, and the Trump Organization, the President may have to focus on himself for the time being.
